Mohamed is a diplomat at the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since the end of 2023, he has worked as a Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations in New York. He is leading the work of the Third Committee and all matters related to social, humanitarian, cultural, and human rights affairs, as well as sports, technology, digitization, and AI.
On an academic level, Mohamed has a mixed educational background with a master’s in international relations obtained with distinction in 2020 from the University of Birmingham after being selected for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship. Prior to that, he received his bachelor’s degree with honors in 2015 in Project Management from the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Misurata.
Primarily, Mohamed is known for his civic work. He is co-founder of one of the largest non-profit NGOs in Libya, the Dialogue & Debate Association (DDA), established in March 2014. He served as the CEO from late 2017 until the end of 2023. During that time, DDA received several awards, including the Sami and Tawfiq Award from the EU, and the Debating Pioneers Award presented by H.E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, VC & CEO of Qatar Foundation. In August 2023, Mohamed was recognized by the Libyan government and won the “40 under 40” award for young influencers.
Mohamed’s civic work is mainly rooted in his student activism, where he was elected in 2014 as the President of his faculty Student Union. This was followed by his founding of DDA and serving as its CEO, in addition to his work in the field of democracy and political empowerment of youth through his leadership, along with a group of his peers, of the Youth Dialogue Forum since late 2020. At the international level, Mohamed has participated in multiple conferences related to youth, peace, and governance in Tunisia, Oman, London, The Hague, Oslo, New York, Doha, and elsewhere.
In terms of his public service, Mohamed worked as a part-time IR officer for the Mayor of Misrata. This came after his rich experience as the communication and IR officer of the previous Minister of Interior, where he was responsible for international media and foreign stakeholders, in addition to leading the minister’s public diplomacy efforts and appearance on social media. In early 2022, in recognition of his achievements and relevant experience, Mohamed was appointed by a ministerial decree to the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was promoted to Counselor.
